Christopher Lyles, 30, had tracheal cancer that had progressed so far it was considered inoperable. In November, doctors made him a new windpipe - or trachea - made out of tiny plastic fibers seeded with stem cells from his own bone marrow.

Two months after his successful operation, Lyles arrived home in Md. last week.

Thankful

By now Thanksgiving is over, but I’ve been so wrapped up in studying that I never got a chance to write this…

What are you thankful for? It’s a simple question that most of us probably don’t think about nearly as much as we should, myself included. I remember that growing up, we would have Thanksgiving dinner and my parents would ask us what we were thankful for before we could eat. I’d always just blurt out something obvious like good health, good food, a loving family, etc., but really, I have so much to be thankful for. Hopefully I’ll remember that. The one thing I’m most thankful for right now, is having such amazing friends/family, even when I’m so far from home. I’m thankful for the family I have here, and the family I have back in Vancouver (PS: I miss you guys a lot right now, thinking about home), and without you all I would be even more of a mess than I already am. So thank you guys (even though most of you will never read this).
